Award-winning journalist Belva Davis has covered politics for almost five decades. As the first black female journalist in the western U.S., Davis overcame the obstacles of racism and sexism, and helped change the face and focus of television news. She encountered a cavalcade of cultural icons: Malcolm X, Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Nancy Reagan, Huey Newton, Muhammad Ali, Alex Haley, Fidel Castro and more.
Receiving countless awards, eight-time Emmy award winner Davis is a compelling and compassionate public speaker. She’s appeared on PBS NewsHour, NPR, PRI, CNN, C-Spa and Voice of America. She has anchored at three major network affiliates – CBS, NBC and PBS – and currently hosts a highly respected political affairs program for KQED-TV in San Francisco, the most watched public television station in the country. Her bestselling memoir, Never in My Wildest Dreams, was published to critical acclaim. Belva Davis will be signing her book at the end of the evening.
